Memrise and Quizlet are both educational services for language learning and memorization. They use flashcards as the primary learning method, incorporate game elements and repeating system, support creation of custom memo sets, allow progress and learning statistics tracking. For convenience, users are provided with a mobile app. The basic versions of both services are free, but they also offer paid subscriptions with additional features.

But Memrise (founded in 2010) is a British service that makes strong emphasis on words learning and real-life context. It uses mnemonic method with visual associations, includes videos with native speakers and has built-in gamification with levels and experience points for motivation. Memrise also offers official language courses with certification.

Quizlet (2005) is an American service originally created as a tool for school and university students. It supports various learning modes (test, flashcards, writing, sprint) and has a huge own library of knowledge block sets. The service bets on versatility - it's suitable not only for languages ​​but also for other subjects (physics, geography, biology, etc.). It has special modes for team and competitive learning.
