However, Khan Academy (founded in 2006) is a non-profit educational organization. Most courses and materials on this platform are available for free. The primary format is recorded video lessons and automated exercises, that enable self-learning in convenient pace. The content mostly covers academic subjects: mathematics, science, economics, programming and others.

Outschool (2015) is a commercial educational platform marketplace. Its primary format is live online classes in small groups. Lessons are taught by independent instructors from around the world. The courses typically are presented as thematic projects.
